Dr. Melissa Neiman is the newest member of SMARTER, Skilled Motorcyclist Association - Responsible, Trained and Educated Riders. Dr. Neiman is the author of the excellent article "Motorcycle Helmet Laws: The Facts, What Can be Done to Jump-Start Helmet Use, and Ways to Cap the Damages" (Selected Works of Melissa Neiman, M.D., J.D., http://www.mneiman.com/)

Dr. Neiman is a board-certified neurosurgeon and an attorney licensed to practice both medicine and law in Texas. She has a unique combination of experience and skill as a neurosurgeon and as an attorney. Dr. Neiman uses her medical background in the practice of law, representing and serving individuals, health-care professionals, clinics, institutions, courts, and attorneys throughout the United States.

Dr. Neiman attended the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, and received her medical degree with honors. After receiving her medical degree, she completed her residency in neurological surgery at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas. She also practiced neurological surgery for fourteen years, including twelve years in solo private practice, in Bethesda, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. Among her many honors, she was named a top physician in the Washington, D.C., area by both Consumers' Checkbook Magazine and Washingtonian Magazine. Dr. Neiman served on the Executive and Ethics Committees at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda. 

Prior to becoming an attorney, Dr. Neiman was involved in medical malpractice litigation as a consultant, case reviewer, and expert witness for twelve years. As a result of her experience in this area, Dr. Neiman decided to become an attorney. She then earned her law degree at the University of Houston Law Center. The many years of work in the medical field and her involvement in medical-legal litigation places Dr. Neiman in a unique position to offer a wide range of medical-legal consultation services to a variety of clients.
